I want to welcome everyone our Blog for the Nerd Tutorial
Podcast!
Our goal in the podcast is to help give a brief tutorial
about various topics and subjects of a nerdy/geek nature to those who aren’t
nerdy or geeky themselves. This is
podcast is meant for parents who don’t know what their children are in to, to
co-workers that don’t know why that guy or girl is in to something at work, for
every friend that doesn’t understand the fascination another friend’s
hobby. We’re not going to be mean
spirited, rude, or even offensive; we’re going to try to bring people together
through our shared cultural interests in any number of topics.
If we can be successful, we’ll have offered insight in to
something people might not have known, or perhaps found a way to offer others a
chance to peak in to the small world that is a nerd or geek.
In an effort to be transparent as possible, this is not a
vanity project, not a project with a sense of duty or justice, and certainly
not just a way to get my own voice out there on any of the subjects we discuss. I hold no major degrees in history, sociology,
psychology, or am I even a master of the topics I want to discuss. So I might get stuff wrong, and for that I
will certainly apologize, but I will do my best to offer what knowledge I do
have, and research it thoroughly before hand.
That is partly the purpose of this blog.
The format for the podcast is a conversation between me and
Mom. Every topic will have two podcasts:
Tutorial Episode: where we discuss the topic,
misconceptions, and give a brief history.
In between every two episodes is review material, stuff that
we either need to read, watch, play, or experience to better understand the
topic.
Review Episode: where we discuss the review material, go
over more ideas about the topic, and end with ways you can either support or
get in to the topic of choice.
This format might change, but we’re going to give it a
chance for the first few episodes, and if necessary, we’ll chance some of the
format. We’re going to start a twitter
where we can try to keep people up to date on things happening with the
show. So if you have ideas about topics
or things you want to ask, hit me up on twitter @nerd_tutorial.
Wish me and Mom luck on this adventure.
